From 1979 to 2008 I had the pleasure of sitting at the helm of the Neighborhood Christian Centers, Inc., in Memphis, TN. With my husband and family at my side we have been able to have a postive impact on our city. I learned a few lessons along the way and when my husband and I saw the opportunity to educate others through the written word we seized it. Our books are a personal testament of our trials, tribulations and triumphs. I hope you will take the time to order and read them.
I Belong Here: A Biography of a Community
By Dr. JoeAnn Ballard (2005)
In this book, I Belong Here, JoeAnn traces her journey from the safety and community of her childhood home in the Lower Alabama Basin through Bible School in the Mountains of West Virginia and on to the urban streets of Memphis. From the formative years in the Lower Alabama Basin through the nurturing school enviroment, she learned to obey God. With pocket change and a sense of mission, sh arrived in Memphis and the city has never been the same I have ofter wondered what Memphis would be like if “Miss JoeAnn ” had not obeyed the call to memphis. She could have stayed in the saety of her hometown community which she so dearly describes in thes pages. She did not go home brought the life lessons she learned to Memphis, applied them, and literally thousands have been touched. Their lives have been eternally change because of the grace of Jesus Christ wourkiing through JoeAnn’s Life, which has been dedicated to serving and loving those who have fallen throught the safety net.
